Julia Oschatz’s work combines drawing, video, painting, sculpture, stage design, performance, sound and text to create complex installations. These stage-like situations for short video loops and drawing series address the ambivalence between the dependence of the individual on the body and the environment, as well as the supposed freedom of decision and action.

A central aspect of her work are machines and masks for the video performances made out of cardboard, which in the automatism of constant repetition hinder habits and processes and humorously question the skills of human beings.

Julia Oschatz (*1970, Darmstadt, Germany) lives as a freelance visual artist in Berlin and Sandau (Elbe). In addition to numerous exhibitions of her videos, drawings, paintings and installations, for example at Kunsthalle Karlsruhe, Städtische Galerie Nordhorn, Museo de Arte Contemporáneo, Santiago de Chile and Centro de Arte, Burgos (Spain), she also works as a stage designer, recently for Schauspielhaus Hamburg, Gorki Theater Berlin und Schauspielhaus Frankfurt.
