As part of an international collaborative project between the Academy of Fine Arts Munich and the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Porto, students from both institutions are creating site-specific artworks, which will culminate in an exhibition and collective publication.

The project is part of an Erasmus faculty exchange between Prof. Schirin Kretschmann and Prof. Miguel Leal, and is being realised in collaboration with the Artist’s Writings master’s course and the PhD in Fne Arts. It combines artistic practice, theoretical reflection and collective working methods. The project begins with the joint exploration of urban interstitial spaces in Porto. Through walks, discussions and focused engagement with less visible, informal or transforming urban spaces — supplemented by visits to off-spaces, self-organised spaces and collectives — students will develop individual artistic approaches in dialogue with the local context. The project incorporates an ecological and eco-political dimension through a lecture by Lea Grebe on ecological issues and the transformation of nature and society in urban spaces.

Works are created both on-site and based on preparatory research, encompassing various media such as installation, performance, drawing, photography and text. The results will be presented to the public as part of an exhibition at the university gallery in Porto (opening: 6 May 2026). To this end, a collective artist publication will be produced, bringing together artistic contributions, texts, and visual materials. This publication will transform the site-specific processes into a permanent form, and will be presented in both Porto and Munich.
